How shots are organized

Shots belong to scenes. Each scene has its own ordered list of shots, and shots within a scene can be reordered by dragging. Shot numbers are assigned sequentially within each scene (e.g. 1A, 1B, or simply 1,2, 3 depending on your naming convention).

Creating shots

  • Navigate to Shot List in the Camera section of the sidebar.
  • Find the scene you want to add a shot to and click Add Shot.
  • Fill in the shot details (see below for available fields).
  • Click save. The shot appears in the scene’s list and is immediately visible to all crew.
Note:Creating and editing shots requires Camera department editor access or higher.

Shot metadata fields

Each shot can carry the following information:

  • Description — What the shot captures. E.g. “Wide establishing shot of the diner exterior.”
  • Shot type — Wide Shot, Medium Shot, Close-Up, Insert, Two Shot, Over the Shoulder, etc.
  • Camera angle — Eye Level, High Angle, Low Angle, Dutch Angle, Bird’s Eye, Worm’s Eye.
  • Camera movement — Static, Pan, Tilt, Dolly, Handheld, Steadicam, Crane, Zoom, etc.
  • Lens — The focal length or lens name to be used.
  • Frame rate — Standard, overcranked, undercranked, etc.
  • Equipment notes — Any special rig or equipment considerations for this shot.
  • Cast members — Which cast members appear in this shot.
  • Estimated duration — Approximate screen time or production time for this shot.
  • Notes — Free-text notes for anything not covered above.

Shot statuses

Track each shot through production with the following statuses:

Not Started
In Progress
Completed
  • Not Started — Default. The shot has not yet been filmed.
  • In Progress — The shot is currently being filmed. When a shot moves toIn Progress, a push notification is sent to all crew members with the mobile app installed.
  • Completed — The shot has been filmed and is in the can.
Tip:Update shot statuses in real time on set to keep the whole crew — and any remote stakeholders — informed of progress. The mobile app’s On Set home screen shows in-progress shots prominently.

Reordering shots

Within a scene, shots can be reordered by dragging and dropping. This updates thesort_order field on each shot and the new order is saved immediately. Reordering is useful when planning changes on the day to optimize coverage.

Attachments

You can attach files to individual shots — storyboard frames, reference images, or lighting diagrams. Attachments are uploaded to secure storage and are visible to all crew who have access to the shot list.

Shot list timeline

The Timeline view (accessible from the Shot List section) gives you a broader cross-project view of all shots, organized by:

  • By Scene — All shots grouped under their parent scene.
  • By Location — Shots grouped by the location of their parent scene.
  • By Schedule Day — Shots organized by which shoot day their scene is planned for.

The timeline is also available in the mobile app under the Departments tab, where it shows shot progress bars per scene and highlights any currently in-progress shots.
