Departments
A reference for every department in Studio Color — what tools each has access to, and the standard roles with their default permission levels.
How department access works
When you invite someone to a project, you assign them a department and a role. Their department determines which parts of the sidebar are visible to them and which tools they can use. The permission level on their role determines whether they can view only, edit, or administrate within those tools.
- super_admin — Sees and can edit everything. Only the project owner.
- admin — Sees everything in their department + Budget Overview + Crew management. Can edit all content.
- editor — Can create and edit within their department’s tools. Cannot manage crew.
- viewer — Read-only across their department’s tools.
What all crew members can see
Regardless of department, every accepted project member can:
- View the Current Scene page.
- View their personal My Page (schedule, locations, script, paperwork).
- Download the latest script from Script Management.
- View the Org Chart (crew directory).
- View the locations list and scout photos.
- Complete their own paperwork from My Page.

Production tools — super admin only
Several powerful tools are restricted to the project owner (super admin) because they affect the entire production:
- Script Analyzer — Importing AI-extracted scenes/locations/props affects all departments.
- Schedule management — Creating and editing shoot days impacts every crew member’s schedule.
- Production Equipment — Managing trucks, generators, and logistics requires owner-level oversight.
- Budget Settings — Global contingency and fringe rate settings.
- Project Settings — Archiving, renaming, or deleting the project.
- Notifications — Broadcasting push notifications to all crew.
