What is a breakdown sheet?

A script breakdown sheet is the traditional one-page-per-scene document a production office uses to catalog everything a scene requires — cast, stunts, extras, props, wardrobe, special effects, and more. Studio Color generates these sheets automatically from the data captured during the script breakdown, so the same AI pass that populates your scenes also fills out the sheet.

Tip:Export from Creative → Scenes using the Breakdown Sheets button for the whole production, or from any scene’s detail page with Export Sheet for a single scene.

What’s on the sheet

Each page mirrors the standard breakdown sheet layout:

Header

Breakdown sheet number, page count (in eighths), and export date
Production company and production title
Scene number, scene name, and script page
Location, INT/EXT, and day/night
A description box with the scene synopsis

Element boxes

Cast — named speaking roles
Stunts — choreographed physical action
Extras / Atmosphere — general background performers
Extras / Silent — featured non-speaking performers
Special Effects — practical on-set effects (rain, fire, smoke)
Props — hand props and set dressing from the art department
Vehicles / Animals — picture vehicles and live animals
Wardrobe — clothing and worn items
Makeup / Hair — scripted makeup and hair requirements
Sound Effects / Music — diegetic sound and source music
Special Equipment — non-standard camera/production rigs
Production Notes — free-form notes for the scene

Where the data comes from

When you run a script breakdown, the AI extracts these element categories directly from the screenplay and links each one to the scenes it appears in. Art department items (props, set dressing, wardrobe, vehicles) flow from the props system; the remaining categories are stored as breakdown elements. You can review and correct every category on the Elements tab of the breakdown review screen before importing.

Note:Page counts and script pages are estimated from the extracted script text (~55 lines per page, measured in eighths). They are a close approximation, not a substitute for a formally paginated shooting script.

Editing a sheet from the scene

Every field that appears on the printed sheet is editable inside the scene. Open a scene and go to the Breakdown tab to review and adjust what the AI captured, or to fill in a scene that was created by hand.

Scene details — Description, INT/EXT, Day/Night, Script Day, Script Page, Page Count (in eighths), Location, and Production Notes. Changes save automatically as you edit.
Breakdown elements — Cast, Stunts, Extras, Special Effects, Makeup/Hair, Sound/Music, Special Equipment, and Animals. Type to add an item (autocompleting against records already in the project) and click the × on a chip to unlink it.
Art department — Props, Set Dressing, Wardrobe, and Vehicles. These stay in sync with the props system, so a prop you add here shows up on the Props page too.

Note:Editing is structured: adding or removing an item links or unlinks the real underlying record for this scene. Removing a chip only unlinks it from this scene — the record itself remains available to other scenes. Each field has an i tooltip explaining what belongs there, and the same data drives both this tab and the exported PDF, so they never drift apart.

The same single-source principle extends to the shot list: a shot’s cast and special equipment link to these breakdown records rather than storing their own copy, and cast/equipment added while planning a shot show up here automatically.

Exporting

Whole production — On the Scenes page, click Breakdown Sheets. You get a single PDF with one page per scene, ordered by scene number.
Single scene — On a scene’s detail page, click Export Sheet in the top bar to download just that scene’s sheet.

Boxes with more items than fit on the page show the first entries followed by an “…and N more” line, so a sheet always stays to one page.
