Overview

The Production Pulse dashboard lives at Production Pulse in the project sidebar and gives you a single, beautiful view of where your film stands. Progress is computed live from your actual project data — no manual input needed for pre-production and production phases.

Tip:Navigate to any project and click Production Pulse in the sidebar to open your film’s progress dashboard.

The Three Phases

Film progress is divided into three phases that match the industry-standard production lifecycle.

Pre-Production
Production
Post-Production
Completed

Pre-Production

Progress is automatically derived from the real data in your project. Each checklist item below corresponds to actual records in Studio Color:

  • Script Uploaded — At least one script version exists under Script Management.
  • Script Analyzed — The AI script analyzer has completed a successful analysis, generating scenes, locations, and props.
  • Budget Started — Budget settings and at least one line item have been created.
  • Shooting Schedule Built — At least one shoot day exists in the production schedule.
  • Key Crew Filled — Director, DP, Production Designer, Editor, 1st AD, Producer, Sound Mixer, and Gaffer are all added as crew members.
  • Locations Locked — Every location has a confirmed final source selected.
  • Props Locked In — Every prop has a confirmed final source selected.
  • Camera Package Locked — All camera equipment items have a confirmed source.
  • Production Equipment Locked — All production gear has a confirmed source.
  • Shot List Complete — At least one shot is planned per scene.

Production

Production progress tracks what’s happening on set, derived from your schedule and shot list:

  • Shoot Days Scheduled — Schedule has been built with at least one day.
  • Currently Shooting — One or more days are in “shooting” status today.
  • Shots Completed — Tracks the ratio of shots marked completed versus total planned shots.
  • Shoot Days Wrapped — Tracks the ratio of days marked “wrapped” versus total scheduled days.

Post-Production

Post-Production uses a set of manual milestones seeded automatically on first visit. Producers and admins can check them off, rename them, delete them, or add custom ones:

  • Picture Lock
  • Editor’s Cut, Director’s Cut, Final Cut
  • Sound Design & SFX
  • Music Score / Soundtrack
  • Color Grade
  • VFX Delivery
  • Final Sound Mix
  • Deliverables Packaged
  • Festival / Distribution Submitted
Note:Default post-production milestones are seeded once automatically when an admin first visits the dashboard. No data is lost if you delete or rename them.

Custom Milestones

Producers and admins can add custom milestones to any phase — including Pre-Production and Production. Use the “Add custom milestone” button at the bottom of each phase card.

  • Click Add custom milestone below any phase card.
  • Type a title and press Enter or click Add.
  • Hover a custom milestone to reveal the rename (pencil) and delete (trash) buttons.
  • Click the checkbox icon to mark a manual milestone complete or incomplete.
Important:Only project admins (admin or super_admin permission level) can create, rename, delete, or toggle custom milestones. Viewers and editors can see milestones but cannot modify them.

Advancing the Phase

Once a phase reaches 80% or more completion, a super_admin will see a prompt to officially advance the project to the next phase. This updates the project’s status:

pre_production
production
post_production
completed
Important:Phase advancement is manual and intentional — progress never advances automatically. Only the project owner or a super_admin can advance the phase.

Overall Progress Ring

The large chromatic ring at the top of the dashboard shows overall completion across all three phases combined. KPI tiles below the ring give you at-a-glance stats:

  • Crew — Total accepted crew members on the project.
  • Shoot Days — Days wrapped out of total scheduled days.
  • Shots — Shots completed out of total planned shots.
  • Budget — Total committed spend across all budget line items.

Empty State

If your project has no script, crew, shots, schedule days, locations, props, or camera equipment yet, the dashboard shows a “Film Progress Starts Here” empty state with a direct CTA to upload your first script or start adding crew.

Permissions Summary

  • All members — can view the progress dashboard.
  • admin / super_admin — can create, rename, delete, and toggle custom milestones.
  • super_admin only — can advance the project to the next phase.
