Mobile App
The Studio Color mobile app is built for on-set and field use — optimized for quick access to the information and actions that matter when you're away from your desk.
Get your crew on the app
Every crew member should have the iOS app installed before the first shoot day. Push notifications are the primary benefit — the moment a scene changes, a shot goes in progress, or a shoot day wraps, every crew member with the app is notified instantly, with no manual relay.
How to share the app with your crew
Producers and admins can share the iOS download link from several places on the web app:
- Top banner — A “Studio Color is on iOS” bar appears at the top of every web app page. Click
Send to crewto open the share modal. - Sidebar tile — The “Studio Color for iOS” card in the left sidebar has an App Store link and a
Sharebutton. - Dashboard notice — The project dashboard shows a prominent “Get your crew on the app” card above your projects, with
Send to crewand the App Store badge. - Crew page — The project crew page (
Crewin the sidebar) shows a panel with a “Share with crew” button that pre-selects all accepted members. - After inviting a member — When you invite a new crew member, the success screen shows an iOS App Store link and a “Copy iOS link” button so you can include it in your follow-up message.
Share modal
The share modal lets you:
- Show a QR code — ideal for projecting on set or displaying at a crew meeting.
- Copy the App Store link directly.
- Select individual crew members and send them the link via your device’s email app (
Emailbutton, usesmailto:). - Send an SMS to crew members who have a phone number on file (
SMSbutton, usessms:).
No third-party messaging service is involved — sends go through your own mail or messages app.
Mobile vs web
The web app is where production is planned. The mobile app is where production isexperienced. Both share the same project data in real time — anything your producer sets up in the web app is immediately visible in the mobile app.
- Web app: Script breakdowns, schedule building, budget management, crew coordination, paperwork, and all administrative functions.
- Mobile app: Live current scene, shot list updates, prop/equipment status changes, location scout photos, schedule lookup, script download, and push notifications.
Profile and onboarding
Web-first account setup
New accounts and full profile onboarding happen on the web at studiocolor.io (App Store guideline 3.1.3(c) — enterprise-style services). The iOS app is for signing in with credentials your production team has already set up and for completing optional profile details in the field.
Profile completion banner
If your profile is still missing pieces, a banner may appear at the top of the On Set home screen and on the More tab. It shows a progress indicator and a nudge toward the next missing piece (name, photo, or departments). Tap Set up to open More → Edit Profile and finish those fields. The banner can be dismissed and will reappear after three days if your profile is still incomplete.
Editing your profile
You can update your profile at any time from More → Edit Profile or by tapping the profile card at the top of the More tab. From the Edit Profile screen you can:
- Change your profile photo by tapping the avatar and choosing from your camera or photo library.
- Update your first name, last name, and phone number.
- Edit your short bio (up to 300 characters).
- Add or update your IMDb profile URL.
- Add or change your department selections.
Tap Save Changes to apply your updates. Changes sync immediately to the web app and are visible to your entire crew.
Getting started on mobile
Authentication
Sign in to the mobile app using the same email/password, Google, or Apple account you use for the web app. Account creation is not offered inside the iOS app — use studiocolor.io first, then sign in here. Your projects, permissions, and data are exactly the same.
Selecting a project
After signing in, you’ll be prompted to select which project to work in. The app focuses on one project at a time. You can switch projects from the More → Settings screen.
iOS access, view-only mode, and account deletion
After sign-in, the app checks whether your workspace has full iOS access (subscription plan with iOS enabled, or you have an active role on at least one non-archived project as owner or accepted member). You can always reach Select project and browse the app.
If you do not have full iOS access, you are in view-only on iOS: you can read schedules, shot lists, scripts, and crew information, but actions that change production data (status updates, uploads, scene changes, announcements, profile edits, and similar) are blocked until your admin provisions access on studiocolor.io. A banner at the top of the main tabs explains this.
If the entitlement check cannot complete (network error or timeout), a Retry banner appears; you can still browse in view-only until verification succeeds.
The optional iOS access not provisioned support screen (reachable from help links) offers Contact support, Continue to projects (view-only), Delete account (same server-side deletion as More → Settings → Delete Account), and Sign out.
On Set — the home screen
The On Set tab is the primary screen on mobile. It’s designed to give you the most important on-set information at a glance.
Current scene card
The hero of the home screen is the current scene card — it shows exactly what scene is being filmed right now. It updates in real time using a live database subscription, so you never need to manually refresh to see a scene change.
The card links to the full current scene detail view, which shows shots, props, equipment, and location information for the active scene.
Today’s schedule
Below the current scene card is a strip showing today’s shoot day information — scenes scheduled, call time, and locations.
Quick actions
The quick action grid gives one-tap access to the most-used features:
- Shot List — Jump straight to the camera department shot list.
- Schedule — Open the full shoot schedule.
- Props — Browse the art department prop list.
- Camera Equipment — Browse camera gear.
- Script — Download or view the latest script version.
- Locations — Browse locations and scout photos.
Current Scene detail
Tapping the current scene card opens a full detail view with everything the crew needs for the active scene:
- Shot list — All shots for the scene with live status indicators. Shots currently in progress are highlighted.
- Location — The shooting location with a maps link, notes, and scout photo carousel.
- Props — Props needed for this scene with their statuses.
- Camera equipment — Equipment assigned to this scene.
Schedule tab
The Schedule tab shows all shoot days organized as a section list. Tap any day to see its scenes, locations, call times, and crew assignments. The schedule is read-only on mobile — changes are made in the web app.
Departments tab
The Departments tab organizes mobile features by production area. It contains four main cards:
Production
- Schedule — Full shoot schedule view.
- Timeline — Visual shot and scene timeline with progress bars.
Art Department
- Props — Browse all props with search, filter by scene or location. Tap any prop to view full details, update status, view sources, see which scenes it belongs to, and upload photos directly from your camera roll.

Script tab
The Script tab shows all available script versions for the project. Tap any version to download the PDF to your device or open it directly. Downloaded scripts are accessible offline using the device’s native PDF viewer.
More tab
The More tab contains less frequently used but important features:
- Locations — Browse the locations list and tap any location to see its details and photos. Upload new scout photos from your camera roll directly into the location record. Add notes to any photo for context.
- Budget — A read-only budget overview showing top-level totals and department breakdowns.
- Crew — The crew directory with names, departments, and roles.
- Settings — Profile information, push notification preferences, and sign out.
Push notifications
Studio Color sends push notifications to keep the whole crew informed of what’s happening on set without anyone needing to check the app constantly.
When notifications are sent
- Scene change — Whenever the current scene is updated, all crew are notified of the new scene.
- Shot in progress — When a shot status changes to In Progress on the web app.
- Shoot day shooting — When a shoot day’s status changes to Shooting.
- Shoot day wrapped — When a shoot day’s status changes to Wrapped.
- Manual announcements — Super admins can send custom push notifications (e.g. “Lunch in 10 minutes”).
Notification channels (Android)
On Android, notifications are organized into channels so crew can customize which types they want to receive:
scene-change— Scene change notifications.shot-update— Shot status updates.schedule— Schedule day status changes.default— General announcements.
Managing notifications
Push notifications can be enabled or disabled from More → Settings in the mobile app. Disabling notifications removes your device’s push token from the system — you will stop receiving all Studio Color notifications until you re-enable them.
Photo uploads on mobile
A key mobile use case is capturing and uploading photos in the field. You can upload photos directly from your camera roll or take new photos with your camera for:
- Location scout photos (with notes and source linking)
- Prop photos and receipts
- Camera equipment photos
- Production equipment photos
All photos sync immediately to the web app and are visible to the full team.
